“Absolutely!
Math and science are integral to everything in the world. Environmental issues are concerns of people of all ages around the world. Science and math are not only necessary for scientific and mathematics professions, they are components in every career today. Mastering both subjects, in a real world project, help students understand the multiple applications in everyday living.
Students also apply math to calculate their fund raising success.

“Who can be involved?”
|
|
“Everyone.”
Students are LEARNERS, researchers, investigators, problem solvers, and presenters.
Teachers / Club leaders are learning leaders and coaches for the environment project and community service.
Administrators support LEARNING, SERVING AND SHARING with schedule modifications, resources, partnership development and fund raising communication.
Custodians help with recycling, campus gardens or other service.
Parents provide expertise, record volunteer hours, schedule environment events, and assist with fund raising.
PTA's or Parent Groups can coordinate fundraising at the site.
Business and community partners are real life content experts and provide resources necessary for the projects. Partners may sponsor teacher / school membership in It’s Your Environment and help the school raise money for their “wish list”.

“It’s Your Environment challenges students to SERVE and take action such as recycling, cleaning up an ecosystem, conserving water or energy, or many other practical steps to help the environment.

“How long does the environmental project take?”
|
|
The length of the project is determined by each student or school site and will vary depending on the research necessary for the project, the amount of time that it takes to complete the work, and the service that students conduct at the school or in the community. The projects may be completed during the school day or in clubs after school. The deadline for projects entered in the Online Environment Fair is May 1, 2010. Fund raising can take place throughout the entire year.

“Do students need access to technology?”
|
“Yes!”
Students use technology to research up to date information, record data, present ideas, take photographs, and SHARE their work on It’s Your Environment web pages. These web pages serve as motivation to others to conduct similar environment programs in their school or community and encourage the school to compete in Online Environment Fairs and raise funds for their school / club programs.
